Mental Exercises

Here are a few mental exercises.  They're not ones that I personally thought of (Ironic statement in lieu of the topic. LOL) but they're great ones none the less.  At least they are in my estimation.  I'm one of those people who has about 50 gazillion ideas and concepts in my mind, all at the same time. The high side of it all is that I'm never short on ideas.  The low side of it is that I do tend to scatter my energy.  As we all know, focus brings strength, and so it's in that ~Spirit~ that I share these two exercises.  We do exercises for our body...so why not our mind?  Here's to STRONGER MINDS for us all!

O.k.!  The exercises:

#1....Once a day multiply together two double digit numbers without pencil and paper.  Keep doing it until you KNOW you've got it done correctly.

Let me tell you, math and I fit together like a hand and a glove so it's not the math but boy oh boy is this exercise a good one for me.  It told me a lot about my own personal mental process.  I guess I'm use to being visual in this domain.  That's not a bad thing but if I'm to grow in all areas of life that means broadening my horizons in HOW I think too!  (Not just WHAT I think of.)  Most people (and I guess I have to plead guilty here) tend to think of new ideas as a broadening of the horizons but it's actually short sighted.  If we're going to be open to new ideas we should also be open to how we get there.  After all, it's quite conceivable that some ideas might just have a unique path so thinking along the same lines...we'd never get there.  Right?

#2...

Learn 4 lines of a poem or story every day.  They'll teach you how to maintain a thought.  (This here I find is another huge challenge for me! LOL)  I can chat up a storm any time in just about any place and to nearly any ONE....but give me something to memorize and I'm cooked!  I was in local theatre and believe me when I tell you, even learning lyrics proved to be difficult.  Apparently, unbeknownst to myself prior to my theatre experiences, I'd learned lyrics that I knew from repetition.  That's not a bad thing just a stagnant thing.  Sooooo I think that learning 4 lines and 4 lines ONLY...per day ...is a really good idea!

#3

Find a face in the crowd that you will not see for long.  Presumably someone who is walking past you down the block ...or something like that.  Look at that face and then look away.  Focus intently on the image in your mind....do this for a moment or two.  What do you feel?  What do you SEE?  What do you remember?  What do you think you KNOW about the person who's face you came to study???

This exercise is more in alignment with my usual approach.  I instinctively feel the moods and vibes of people around me and so I think I'll find that part A O.k.!  I am going to work on remembering details though because for me, what I usually do perceive are the subtler energies and do honing in on the details would be taking something I'm already familiar with and advancing it a step.

Good Luck to {{{ALL}}}

Happy Exercising!
