The American Indians believed in the sacredness of dreams.  They believed that the visions they brought were messages of great power.  They also believed that before a dream came to someone sleeping they ~floated~ around.   To ensure that all dreams coming to the sleeper were good ones, the Elders made special webs to trap the them.   The belief is that if a Dream Catcher was hanging above the bed, the good dreams would float in through the middle of the web and reach the sleeper while the bad dreams would get tangled up in the web thereby protecting the sleeper.  Dream Catchers were also believed to bring other blessings to like tranquility and good luck.
