Outside Confirmation
The Journey….......Inward!

Is it possible for others to see what's INSIDE of You?
You bet it is!

Ahhhhh! You’re back!

Now the question at hand is why are you back? When we last spoke, I finished off my comments to you with a question. I asked you if what you wanted from life was more. To be more precise, I asked you if what you were after was more “fullness”. Hummmm “more”, “fullness”, they sound very quantitative, don’t they? How does one know who has this much sought after more or who’s life is fuller than someone else’s? The answer is that no one does! No one but you, yourself. That’s why I titled the column The Journey......Inward! Not everything in life is measured in the traditional linear fashion. Love, happiness and most certainly fullness of life are on that list of very real yet very ethereal concepts. This of course makes them difficult to chart.

Life (in this plane) has a very definite beginning, and a very definite end. Philosophers and spiritualists may differ on the exact when of it all, but I doubt very much you’d get an argument about the reality of it. I’ve been there when both my son and daughter were born and I was also there this past May when my Father passed on and I can tell you with absolute certainty that when all is said and done, and that profound moment is at hand, all of the money, palatial houses, fancy cars and jewelry don’t and won’t mean a hill of beans. They won’t save the dying and they won’t give a baby the real nourishment it so desperately needs to flourish. In both of these scenarios it is the human or spiritual factor that is the prognosticator. A warm smile, a kind touch, a gentle voice, are all demonstrations of one human spirit reaching out to another. Sometimes those beautiful expressions save lives, sometimes they just make the transition between life and death a little easier, but they always make some kind of difference. Sure, a baby needs food, but don’t they need love even more? The Joan Crawford story Mommy Dearest showed that quite well. If one were to measure by ordinary standards, her children had everything a child could want. But that is when external criteria are setting the standards. What her children really longed for was attention, nurturing, and a close relationship. In other words, love! I’ve never once been to a funeral where they talked about what the deceased person owned or if they had any fancy degrees hanging on their walls. Nope! They talk about the times they spent together and the many heart to heart talks they’ve had. Just look at the many ills of today's society. There are far too many people going hungry and homeless. Of course food and shelter are important, but I don’t believe that what the public perceives as the cause of it, is really the culprit. The roots of much of what we see is on the inside. The roots are inside of you, and they’re inside of me. The more one turns inward, the more one finds “likeness” and “kinship” with others. The journey inward brings people closer. Why? Because they no longer put their hopes, dreams, and faith in the ever-changing external things. External things are part of the material world and have no real connection to truth. They are superficial diversions. The value and importance of them fluctuate from day to day. They actually take us away from who and what we truly are. They are in no way food for the soul/spirit which is even more important than the body. Science tells us that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It can only change form. Therefore, where does your spirit go when it’s no longer in your body? It does go somewhere. Don’t you think it would be wise to invest some time caring for that as well so it’s prepared for it’s new home?

O.k., o.k. I’ve gone on and on and haven’t mentioned one single, teeny weenie way of doing this journeying inward. There are many! Oh so many! Actually the list is probably endless but I’ll start here with something that combines the concrete and the abstract and hopefully, as time unfolds, I’ll be able to shed some light on the many and various paths which one can take on their journey of self-discovery.

A few weeks ago, I happened to come upon what some would call a “New Age” store. I entered in and browsed around. How I found out about it I really don’t remember. It was word of mouth I believe but exactly whose mouth it was has sort of slipped my mind! (This slipping of the mind business unfortunately, is not extremely unusual for me.) Anyway, while browsing around I met the owner George and his daughter Elizabeth. For some strange reason, we became inexplicably friendly right off the bat, but that’s another story! While I continued moseying my way around the store, George tells me that he has certain events in his store from time to time and that soon, he’s going to have what’s known as an Aura Photographer there. He said that the picture would be ready in a mere 90 seconds and that the subject would get a full interpretation of it’s meaning. Then he asked me if I’d be at all interested in it.

Me? Interested in getting a picture of my Aura taken? You’ve got to be kidding! Of course I would! But, before we go any further, I want to make it perfectly clear that even though I’m very introspective, I am in no way an easy touch! Quite the contrary! In fact, I always tread with caution! I’m not exactly the adventurous type. I don’t really drink (unless you count weddings), I’ve never smoked and I certainly have never done any illegal drugs. Gosh! I’ve never even been on a roller coaster, but an Aura photograph...... for sure! That kind of adventure/investigation I could handle. I was really curious to see what the interpretation of me was going to be.

In case any of you out there have no idea what I’m talking about, an aura is an emanation outside the human body. It is electro-magnetic in nature. Some believe that all things, human and non-human have an aura. Perhaps you’ve seen pictures of saints or other religious figures. Well, that specter of stuff that always surrounds their body (sometimes it’s around their head) is a depiction of an aura. Physics describes it as an electro-magnetic field.

Enter.....January 11th. The big picture day! I was really excited, which in and of itself is odd because I was always the kind of kid who hated to have my picture taken. I still do really but this was something special! Usually, you name the kind of picture, I hated it. Whether it was those crummy school pictures (which my mother always made me curl my very long and straight hair for) or those family holiday “get together” photos, I always preferred to be the photographer rather than the photographed. Anyway, this whole event ran by appointment. Mine was at 11:45 a.m. I walked into the shop a little early so I could ~mingle~ with the other prospective victims. In the course of my mingling, I met many interesting people. I can tell you this, all of them were mainstream, with very ordinary careers and ordinary lives. Not a single one of them was weird. (like my Mom warned me about) No one, at least no one that was there when I was, claimed to be an alien or anything like that. (Sheesh! Mothers, you’ve just gotta love ‘em!) Everyone was there for the same reason. We were all fellow soul searchers. We were all introspective types. We all wanted to see if the Aura photograph and interpretation was really going to be accurate. Call it confirmation of knowledge already acquired!

I’d like to preface this whole “Aura” business by saying that it is very scientific as well. The skeptics will separate when it comes to the personal interpretation, but even they can’t deny that it’s roots are not only very factual but that they’ve also been useful in the medical field. Certain kinds changes in ones electro-magnetic field have been known in many an instance to be an accurate indicator of a medical problem.

The camera used was developed in the late 80’s by a man named Guy Coggins. It is called an Aura Imaging camera. It takes the basics of Kirlian photography and combines it with acupressure knowledge and biofeedback technology. The subject is asked to place their hands upon 2 plates which pick up the reflexology points in the hands and also the energy that flows through them. The result is an instamatic picture that captures the subjects electro-magnetic field. As far as the interpretation of the colors are, there is a whole science built around that alone!

I sat down and did as I was told. It was as quick and painless as I thought it would be. Now the 90 second wait was before me! Oh no! Tick...tick....tick....went the clock. O.K., So I’m not exactly overflowing with patience! The result? Approximately 90% of my aura was green. The other 10% was blue. The interpretation of those colors was Teacher and Healer and strong Faith.

Guess what? I teach religion and I tutor math. I also run (with a friend) a Support Group for fellow Breast Cancer Survivors. As far as the teaching is concerned, I’m happy to be able to say that my private students are now passing where they were once failing. The support group? I hope I’m healing, as it isn’t an easy road to have walked on! Strong Faith? You bet!

Everyone in the store that day found their aura interpretation to be spot on! None of the customers was any less than very satisfied, not to mention completely amazed at it’s accuracy. I certainly can’t argue there either. There was one other woman who had some green, just like I did, and she was a nurse!

So! I got confirmation of what I’m like on the inside, didn’t I? Confirmation isn’t always necessary, but is sure is interesting and fun! Hey, I’m only human!

Peace, Light, and Love.....
