Raise your hand if
you’ve ever said: If I only knew then what I know now? I know
I have in the past. Have you ever felt that you learned a lesson "too
late”? Well, I’m here to tell you…in case you didn’t know it already, that
it’s… never too late! On one of my treks to the movies with my children I saw
the Disney animated story The Lion King. In it was not only a very pretty
song…but a truly profound one called: The Circle Of Life.
|
| |
|
Take a look at a
circle and examine it physically. What do you see? Something that’s
continuous…right? You see something without a beginning and without
an end…no? Well, that’s exactly what life is. Of course the
“scenery” changes from time to time when the soul, which is who we really are,
eventually goes to another plane…but it never stops living! Every life
lesson you learned, is now a part of your soul. It is enriched and
enhanced as well hurt by your actions and reactions to every single trial and
tribulation that you are faced with. The soul is eternal. Most
religions, as well as science, do back this up. Of course some religions
believe that the life after the one here is the final destination. Eastern
religions like that of the Hindus believe that the soul enters the earth plane
many more times. This of course is known as reincarnation.
Science tells us that “matter cannot be created nor destroyed”. As you can
see, the specifics may differ…but the essence is the same. By and large
most believe that when you leave this particular plane you most certainly go
somewhere! And believe me…you take what you’ve learned with you as
well.
|
| |
|
Even on the most
mundane of levels the circle is appropriate. Look at a newborn baby.
Then take a look at a human being who has been blessed enough to be a very
seasoned senior citizen. Do they not share many similarities? A baby
is ordinarily born without hair, without teeth, without the ability to feed,
clothe or fend for itself. Is that not precisely what you see when you
visit a nursing home?
|
| |
|
Karma is the
Hindu/Buddhist word that means the soul always faces the consequences of their
actions. Christians too have been taught this when they learned that we
all “reap what we sow”. Of course my mother also had her little saying
(Come on, you just had to know I’d throw my mother in here somewhere! ?)
which was “what goes around, comes around”. I think by now you can see
what I’m saying. The bottom line to all of this is that there is a
~connection~ between every single thing we do…and all that follows.
|
| |
|
When you examine
your life, do you see a pattern to the hard times? Is there a lesson that
you are being constantly shown but refuse to learn? If you answer: “Yes”,
then you are missing a chance for growth of the soul. What you refuse to
acquiesce on now…will come back to “haunt” you …until you do learn it!
|
|
In my own
particular life I can tell you that this has happened time and time again.
Some of the lessons were learned with much pain. That’s what usually
happens when you toss aside a signal. Being very specific I can give you
an example. While I was blessed enough to have had a very easy time of it
in the school arena as a child and was highly successful with a mere amount of
work…I had a brother who struggled horribly. He was my polar opposite.
Nothing came easy for him. Being only 14 months younger than me my parents
continuously asked me to “teach” him, “show” him…share a little of what I had
and knew. Did I do it? Ashamedly I have to say: “No”! On
the rare occasion that I did sit down with him I called him all kinds of names.
I thought I had it figured all out! I believed that he was really very
lazy…and probably stupid to boot!
|
|
Much later on…life
taught me just how stupid I was! I have both a son and a daughter, whom I
love equally, dearly….and with all of my heart. My son (my first born) is
academically gifted and has always been a part of the hierarchy in the school
arena. He achieves great successes with the smallest of labors. My
daughter…is learning disabled. She struggles every single day of her
school life. And yes, her difficulties transcend into the larger picture
of life. As I said before…everything is truly connected. Not that I didn’t
already know it intuitively (a mother always knows) but she has been tested and
she has a very high I.Q. just like her brother. Her learning disability is
an isolated but none the less significant factor that profoundly impedes her
successes. Do you see here the reemergence of a particular scenario?
I surely did!
|
|
Okay…so what life
lesson did I learn from it all then? Well, after having spent the last 13
years researching various learning disabilities I can tell you that I’ve learned
that both my brother and my daughter are neither stupid nor lazy! In
fact…they work harder in school than people like my son and I will probably ever
be able to totally comprehend. Although, of course now I most painfully
see what the ramifications of quick and intolerant judgment do to
someone else. I have also come to recognize a red flag when I see
one. I now employ the techniques I’ve learned courtesy of my daughters situation
in my tutoring. While I can’t go back and erase the actions that I took
with my brother… I sure can see to it that I don’t repeat and repeat and repeat
the pattern. That’s what Karma is! That’s the Circle of Life at
work! What we don’t face now…we face later. What we don’t face
later…we will be presented with time and time again! So…believe me…your
soul does know now what it didn’t know before…and it does make use of it!
It grows in strength and purity and genuine unconditional love with every single
lesson it learns.
